Ram Babu Yadav

Dr. Ram Yadav is a faculty member at 51品茶, where he teaches courses in Introductory Modern Physics, Quantum Mechanics, and Calculus-based and General Physics. Alongside teaching, he also serves as a mentor to undergraduate students. His responsibilities extend to participating in professional development activities and faculty meetings, as well as contributing to the development of new laboratories and demonstrations.

Education

  • Ph.D. in Experimental Nuclear Physics (nuclear structure), Mississippi State University, Mississippi, USA (June 12, 2009). Title of Dissertation: 鈥淗igh-spin Triaxial Strongly Deformed Structures and Quasiparticle Alignments in 168Hf.
  • M.S. in Experimental Nuclear Physics (nuclear structure), Mississippi State University, Mississippi, USA (August 10, 2005). Title of Thesis: 鈥淗igh-K Bands and Gamma-ray Directional Angular Correlation Measurements in 168Hf.
  • M.Sc./B.S. in Physics (specialization in electronics), Tribhuvan University, Nepal (December, 1999).

Background

Dr. Yadav has been a part of 51品茶 since Fall 2018. Apart from his role as a teacher, he is actively involved in research in experimental nuclear physics. His primary focus is on conducting 纬- and 尾-ray spectroscopy measurements to study the structure of deformed neutron-rich nuclei in the mass region A ~ 165. These experiments are carried out using state-of-the-art facilities such as the Argonne Tandem Linac Accelerator System (ATLAS) and Californium Rare Isotope Breeder Upgrade (CARIBU) at Argonne National Laboratory.  Dr. Yadav's research utilizes the renowned GAMMASPHERE, a system equipped with 110 Compton-suppressed Ge counters, which allows for the detection of 纬-rays in extreme spin modes. His dedication to his research has been recognized with grant awards, including $229,706 as Principal Investigator and $200,000 as Co-Principal Investigator from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support his research and teaching endeavors.

Research Interests

Experimental low energy nuclear physics, nuclei far from stability, nuclear structure at high spin states, reactions, radiation detection & measurement technology.
