SC State to celebrate Black History Month with series of events
A call for artists
New this year is a call for artists for the I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium鈥檚 鈥淏lack Love, Black Ourstory鈥 exhibition set for Feb. 13-March 31.
The Stanback invites alumni, students, emerging and professional artists, artisans, and graphic designers to express their creativity, drawing inspiration from Black History and the 鈥渇ive tenants of Black Love Day鈥 (Feb. 13) 鈥 鈥淟ove for the Creator, Love for Family, Love for our Community, Love for Self, and Love for the Black Race.鈥
On Friday, Feb. 21, from 6-10 p.m., the Stanback will present an evening with the 鈥淏lack Love, Black Ourstory鈥 artists. This is your chance to hear directly about their works of art and their creative process.

Ham will be the keynote speaker for the commemoration of the 57th anniversary of the Orangeburg Massacre. Wednesday, Feb. 12 Movie night 5 p.m., Nance Hall The Department of Social Sciences, the History Program and the History Club present a movie night featuring the Civil Rights Era historical drama, 鈥淪elma.鈥 West African Music Celebration 5:30 p.m., Fine Arts Building Thursday, Feb. 13 Book signing at discussion 6 p.m., I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium The I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium presents a book signing and discussion for 鈥淕o Back & Get It: Reclaiming Our Greatness - The Love Blueprint.鈥 Three SC State alumni, Willease N. Williams, 1993 & 1996, Gerald E. Hunt, 1992, and LeConte' R. Middleton, 2010, return to launch their newly released book. Tuesday, Feb. 18 Self-defense v non-violence 4 p.m., Nance Hall The Department of Social Sciences, the History Program and the History Club present a public debate, 鈥淪elf-defense v non-violence (The Orangeburg Massacre).鈥 Tuesday, Feb. 25 (tentative) Civil Rights Debate Night 6-8 p.m., location TBA The Dr. Emily England Clyburn Honors College and NAACCP present the Civil Rights Debate Night.
